Productions hits with Brian
Tell’s subtle stoner, The Chameleon Voice, an album
that British pop culture site gives 5 stars and says is
“unique in such a way…poetry meets music
with ease at a crossroads of different styles.”
Produced and engineered by Silver Tortoise Soundlab visionary
Jonas Dainius Berzanskis, the Chameleon Voice is nothing
less than raw lush bursting energy. With stunning audio,
Tell’s hypnotic, folk-rock-funk spoken word
sails, grooves and sings its way across a dynamic
landscape of intricately arranged yet accessible tunes.
Detroit’s Jam Rag describes The Chameleon Voice as
Pere Ubu x Talking Heads x Frank Zappa. Throw in a little
Bruce Cockburn, some Laurie Anderson, top it off with some
authentic Detroit funkadelic, such as in the closing track
“is/was/is”, and you begin to get the picture.
Our
concept is the collaboration between Tell and Chicago Jazz-Fusion
Funkstress Lucy Smith, a
regular on the Chicago scene with her group Passing for
Normal and stints with the progressive Concord Orchestra.
Smith’s juicy voicings on the opening
track, Untitled Fish in Untitled Rain are enough to make
you wet your pants, not to mention her daredevil, hip-hop
acrobatics on is/was/is, backed by Tell’s equally
crazed lead guitar and a groove not be messed with from
one of Detroit’s tightest ‘60’s rhythm
sections. Brian and Lucy look forward to participating in
the Funk(sh)Way™ - a production collaborative in development
from STS™
