after being born in a DPW (displaced person of
war) camp outside of Munich.

capitals he believed would soon be part of Free
Europe - a prophetic techno ditty he produced
in early '89 and co-wrote with Ron Pangborn

Jonas
meets GAZA in Ann Arbor as well as Eugene Poplavsky
in April 1990 and produces a four song casette Svaboda to
help them stay in the US. Later that summer Jonas
produces an album that has yet to be released.Photo
from Washington DC concert using STS guitars. Eugene
and Jonas form New Regime Production Company
to promote and produce GAZA. An unreleased album
recorded at STS will be available.

In
1990, Alexei Pavlov, a great krishna funk drummer
from Zvuki Mu (sic), who was hired by Eugene
Poplavsky and Jonas Dainius Berzanskis for the
Gaza project, lived with us for almost six months
in a tent in our backyard. Alexei was a practising
Khrishna, which re-kindled Jonas's interest of
eastern religions. Rasa, Alexei and Jonas visited
the khrishna temple in Brooklyn NYC.

MC
Pavlov as a House Guest 1990 STS basement MC
Pavlov and the Dacha Band born in Ann Arbor at
Jonas's suggestion. Alexei recorded 'Yo
MTV raps over a four month period sitting on
the basement steps and living in a tent in our
backyard. MC Pavlov then played the tapes at
apartments in Moscow, kick starting the hip-hop
movement in Russia. Art Forrest collaborated
with Jonas & Alexei in the summer of 1990
resulting in the production of Limo
Rider.
|
Jonas
mentored Art Forrest (co-author of techno classic "Big
Fun" with Kevin Saunderson & James Pennington)
on the use of Dr.T's and various Midi configurations
starting in the early 1980's. Alexei plays a
Gretsch Kit live against a programmed Roland
box. Art Plays real-time synth bass. This approach,
used with Ron Pangborn in the group Shockhausen,
and the E-Bow technique became part of Jonas's
production style appearing in the next year on
his production of Lithuania's first Pop Cd "It
might Ring Strange" with Andrius Mamantovas
in '91.
|
 |
After
meeting in Krakova right during the first gulf
war and the attack on Vilnius by the Soviets in
January 1991 for pre-production at a Lithuanian
CIA officer's home; Andrius agrees to have Jonas
produce Lithuania's first pop CD "It Might
Ring Strange" in Warsaw later that spring. If
I Can't Have You is an example of the production
style created by Jonas for Andrius using techno,
ambience, and acoustic elements as well as breaking
beer bottles with Andrius at 6am for the samples
you hear. Andrius world- class talent shines and
was just the beginning of a great career writing
and creating an album that was recorded, mixed,
and mastered in one week for a budget of less than
$2000 usd. A complete history and photos will be
available on the legacy page in the future.
|
 |
The
CD shown is the original 1991 release listing
Dainius Berzanskis as producer. Zalia Zuvis owned
by Paulius Jurgutis sponsored the production
using monies from T-Shirt sales & donations
from the Lithuanian-American community. This
was also the first pop CD released in Lithuania.

 |
During
US tour of 1991, Jonas, Paulius Jurgutis, and
Andrius Mamontovas from Foje in '91 hear, see,
nor speak no evil as they get ready to produce
@ STS - techno remix "My
Countrymen" using Lithuanian President's
Vytautas Landsbergis's speech Jonas recorded
at the Field Museum in Chicago that spring. Andrius
releases the mix in LT during Presidential elections
upon returning to LT. Jonas appears on a DVD
release of the Video.

| REGISTER & VOTE in
all elections or forfeit your democracy. George
W. Bush won the 2000 election with 49.82 million
votes and this smells funny. There are over
180 million people in the US of voting age;
therefore our sitting president was elected
by less than 30% of the voting age citizenry. That's
why we are in a Blues
